ALPIN - Air Liquide PIDS Interactive Network

In order to improve management of the loop of experience feedback between collaborators working on the various stages of a project (from the design until the startup), Air Liquide Engineering specified the framework of a collaborative process based on the knowledge management.

ALPIN project (Air Liquide PIDs Interactive Network) is based on an interaction centered around its P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram).

The users and the experts communicate via “Pins” pointing on a selected part of the diagram (equipment, control loop). Informations and knowledges are shared by all and are validated by a community of experts in order to enrich with the wire by water a “business” knowledge base with a priceless contents.

ALPIN knowledge base is based on Ardans Knowledge Maker software which was retained with its modules:

• AKM Composer, dedicated to the presentation of the knowledge articles,
• AKM Viewer, specified in the interaction with the plans or other representations resulting from the CAD,
• AKM Language, to have multilingual capacity assiciated with a knowledge element.

The authors of ALPIN translated with Ardans Knowledge Maker the expression of requirements as they imagined, supporting the adhesion and the appropriation of the users right from the start of project operation and more generally a full satisfaction of the result obtained by the profession.
